Brian was appointed to the role of Head of RAL Space Operations in 2019, with a focus on resource planning, estates management, delivery and stakeholder engagement.

Previously, Brian was responsible for millimetre systems in the Millimetre-Wave Technology Group. With his expertise in a wide range of engineering disciplines, Brian led or supported the development of a wide range of instrumentation for ground-based astronomy, radar, communications, and atmospheric remote sensing from both aircraft and satellite platforms. He led aircraft instrument deployments on scientific field campaigns in many locations worldwide, from Kiruna in the Arctic Circle to Darwin in Australia's Northern Territories. 

Brian is a Chartered Engineer, member of the Institution of Engineering & Technology, and holds a BEng (Hons) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Queen's University Belfast.​

Head of Operations

Oversees RAL Space engineering and production, environmental test and assurance functions. Responsible for driving operational excellence, embedding sustainability, equality diversity and inclusion and continuous improvement culture within the organisation and ensuring that RAL Space has the capacilty and capabilities to deliver our strategy. The Head of Operations deputises for the Director of RAL Space and chairs the RAL Space Operations Board.
