Prior to this role Jane was Head of the Earth Observation and Atmospheric Science Division within RAL Space, for about 85 staff, in 5 diverse groups, covering technology development, provision of facilities, scientific research and data.

Jane completed a DPhil in Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics from University of Oxford in 2008. Following this she moved into planetary science and worked on instrument design and development, science and operations on the ESA Cassini mission and validation on the Rosetta mission, and was instrument scientist on the UK-provided microseismometer on NASA's InSight mission to Mars.

Jane joined RAL Space in 2013 as a remote sensing scientist. Her role diversified into project management in 2014, becoming the Project Management Group Leader in the Space Engineering Technology (SET) Division in 2017. Jane was Interim SET Division Head in 2021-2022, having responsibility for around 75 technicians, engineers and project managers.

Responsible for developing and delivering against the RAL Space strategy, heading up a team of world leading researchers and championing the research profession within STFC. The Head of Researchers chairs the RAL Space Strategy Board.​
