Mixers perform the frequency translation of RF signals in heterodyne systems. They are a key component in active radar and passive radiometry instrumentation. Schottky-based mixers offer the benefits of low noise, broadband and room temperature operation.
We offer fundamental and (sub-)harmonic mixers in double sideband and IQ topologies from 50 GHz to over 1 THz. Fully-passivated Schottky diodes are employed for enhanced environmental protection. The mixers are designed and optimised to project or customer specification. The MMT Group is continuously expanding its range of mixers so please contact Simon Rea to discuss a specific requirement.

The MMT Group undertakes development work for a variety of government institutions, national/international funding agencies and industry. Customers include the European Space Agency (ESA), European Southern Observatory (ESO), UK Space Agency (UKSA), Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), Centre for Earth Observation and Instrumentation (CEOI), UK Met Office and Airbus Defence & Space. RAL Space mixers are used in active and passive instrumentation on ground-based, airborne, and space-borne platforms for remote sensing applications.
Under a major programme with ESA and Airbus Defence & Space, the MMT Group is contracted to supply receiver front-ends in the frequency range 166 – 325 GHz to three instruments on the MetOp Second Generation (MetOp-SG) mission. The instruments are the Microwave Sounder (MWS), Microwave Imager (MWI) and Ice Cloud Imager (ICI). As part of this programme sub-harmonic mixers from the MMT Group are being qualified for space flight.
The MMT Group offers highly-experienced staff and world-class facilities for the development of Schottky device technology. Facilities within the Group include a dedicated Schottky diode foundry, a Precision Development Facility and Class 1000 cleanrooms for device assembly.
